TEFLON® Coatings for the Aerospace Industry

The operating systems on the United States Navy F-14 Tomcat must operate correctly, smoothly, and on command. There is no room for error or component failure when flying faster than the speed of sound in hostile environments and engaged with skilled adversaries.

That is why the main firing pin on the missile systems for the F-14 Tomcat is specified and coated with TEFLON® coating 954-103. The TEFLON® coating 954-103 prevents corrosion of the metal substrate when exposed to condensation resulting from the rapid elevation changes the aircraft will experience. The TEFLON® coating prohibits ice build up at extreme altitudes, and prevents particulate debris at hot low altitudes from binding the housing and preventing it from traveling smoothly along the firing pin. The TEFLON® coating applied and cured to exact tolerances allows the systems to function as designed and the pilot to return home safely with his aircraft after another successful mission.

TEFLON® coatings can be applied to cup assemblies, retaining rings, carbon rings, piston rings, actuators, valve seat, landing gear and any other moving component on a commercial or military aircraft that can benefit from a dry film self lubricant coating that provides low friction, anti-stick, hydrophobic, oleo phobic, anti-corrosion, and electrically insulating properties.
